Jean Sansgaard, 77, of Story City, passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Manor Chapel.
Jean Sansgaard was born on Feb. 4, 1929, in Dows, Iowa to Dr. Alfred and Kathryn Lekwa. The family moved to Story City when she was two years old. Jean was baptized and confirmed in St. Petri Lutheran Church. She graduated from Story City High School in 1947 and went to Waldorf Junior College for two years. Jean attended Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines, graduating in 1952.
Jean practiced nursing at Iowa Methodist Hospital, first in the Polio Isolation Unit and later as assistant nursing arts instructor. She then transferred to the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, and completed a B.S. Degree at the University of Iowa while working at the hospital.
Jean married Ernest Sansgaard, of Story City, in 1957. They lived in Fertile, Kanawha, Ankeny, Kansas City, Lincoln, and then back to Story City in 2003. Jean enjoyed needlecraft, quilting, working in the garden, and hiking. She frequently volunteered at the hospital, Church, and Cub Scouts.
Jean is survived by her husband of 49 years, Ernest of Story City; her two children Paul (Laura) Sansgaard of Wichita, Kansas, and Mark (Cathy) Sansgaard of Overland Park, Kansas; three grandchildren, Jamie, Aaron, and Molly; her brother Bob (Maxine) Lekwa of Story City; and her sister Marilyn Lekwa of Story City.
Memorials may be directed to Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp or the Billy Graham Evangelical Association.
