Phyllis Gene Miller, 74, of Ames, died Friday, July 13, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at Adams Funeral Home, with family greeting friends one hour prior to service. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, in Sioux City Memorial Park Cemetery.

Phyllis Gene Miller, 74, of Ames, died Friday, July 13, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at Adams Funeral Home, with family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, in Sioux City Memorial Park Cemetery.Phyllis Gene Miller was born Oct. 9, 1932, in Des Moines, to Hugh and Blanche (Wilson) Kennedy. She married Harold Miller June 15, 1956, in Des Moines. She received a bachelor's degree in home economics education in 1955 from Iowa State University, a master's degree in education from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1963 and a degree in counseling from Washington State in 1969. She worked in the Des Moines public schools from 1955-56, Omaha public schools from 1962-63, University of Nebraska-Omaha from 1963-66 as a counselor and Washington State from 1966-69, moving back to Ames in 1969 and finishing her career as a counseling psychologist at ISU in 1992. She was a member of a local book club and Ames photography club.
She will be fondly remembered by her two sons, Chris Miller and wife, Nora, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Andy Miller and wife, Marina, of Coatesville, Ind.; one daughter, Valerie Morgan and husband, Mark, of Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren, Evelyn, Jack, Crystal, Peter, Amber and Matthew; two great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Ryan; and two sisters, Patricia Harper, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Francis Short, of Morganton, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 1961; and one granddaughter, Amy.
Memorials may be directed to Youth and Shelter Services.
