Daniel E. Faidley
Daniel E. Faidley died at his residence in Maxwell, Iowa July 3, 1930 at 7 o’clock in the morning after a short illness, resulting from an apoplectic stroke the day before, all of the children being at his bedside.
Mr. Faidley was a son of the late Elijah J. and Elizabeth Gumbart Faidley. He was born July 10, 1848, at Meyersdale, Penn. where he spent his early life, but came to Washington Township, Polk County, Iowa, in 1874. He was a prosperous farmer until 1903, when he retired and moved to Mawell, where he resided until his death, aged 81 years, 11 months, and 23 days.
In 1876 he was married to Sarah Meyers, eldest daughter of the late Samuel H. and Barbara Klingaman Meyers; she preceded him in death March 22, 1916. To this union were born the following children: Ira D. of Des Moines; Alice, who died in infancy; Mrs. Elsie Hill of Mt. Morris, Ill; Mrs. Clara Trotter of Mawell; Harvey and Franklin, of Des Moines. Two brothers, Hiram E., of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Harvey F. of Columbus, Neb.; a sister, Catherine Eichorn , of Weldona, Colo. and nine grandchildren also survive him.
Two of his ancestors were participants in making American history. His great grandfather, David Kreider, enlisted in the Revolutionary War in 1777, and served under Colonel Stephen Maylan as trumpeter to the end of the war. His grandfather, John Faidley, was a sergeant in the War of 1812.
In early life he affiliated with the Church of the Brethren, having been a staunch defender of its principles for over sixty years. He was the chorister in the local church for many years.
Mr. Faidley was a citizen of sterling integrity and honesty, always taking an active and prominent part in the civic and social affairs in the community in which he lived.
The funeral was held at the country Church of the Brethren with Rev. B. Stutsman, of Des Moines, in charge, assisted by Rev. B. H. Guthrie. Interment in the Brethren cemetery.
The out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were: Mrs. Catherine Eichorn, Weldona, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Faidley, Columbus, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Ira Faidley and son, Harold; and Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Faidley and daughters, Wanda, Nadine and Maxine. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Faidley and daughters Jean and Helen of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. W, E, Hill, son Eldon, and daughters, Glorynne and Margie, of Mt. Morris, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Faidley , Lincoln, Neb; Mr. and Mrs. Levi Faidley, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Faidley, Mrs. and Mrs.Clarence Faidley and Cleo Faidley, Colfax; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Gardner, Perry; Mr. and Mrs. W. T. John, Algona; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hostetler, Colo.
