THOMPSON, EDWARD (abt 1860-1884)
THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, May 1, 1884, page 8, column 3. “THE ROLLAND TRAGEDY – Edward Thompson son of Paul Thompson living about eight miles north of Nevada, on last Tueday, attempted to kill his wife by shooting her. His sister prevented him by snatching the revolver from him. He then seized an ax and struck his wie five blows, and as he thought killer her. He then jumped into the well. He was taken from there alive but died soon after. His wife is still alive but is expected to die hourly. Supposed unfaithfulness of his wife caused the rash act. The Coroner is at this writing holding an inquest. Mrs. Thompson was about 24 years of age. His family are highly respected in the community in which they live.
