John Benjamin Raymond, formerly of Ames, died Tuesday, May 1, in New York City. Arrangements are pending with Adams Funeral Home.

John Benjamin Raymond died Tuesday, May 1 at St. Luke's Hospital in New York City. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8 at Gilbert Lutheran Church in Gilbert. Burial will be in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.
John Raymond was born December 20, 1977, in Ames. He graduated from Gilbert High School in 1996, Waldorf College in 1998, Luther College in 2001, and The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York in 2003. Following his graduation, he worked at DB Bistro Moderne and Le Bernardin in New York City. Most recently, he was a chef at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
He is survived by his parents, Carolyn and Scott Raymond, of Ames; one brother, Karl (Patricia) Raymond, of St. Michael, Minn.; and two nephews Karson and Preston Raymond, of St. Michael, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.Memorials may be directed to the family for a scholarship, which will be established at the Culinary Institute of America in John's name.
