THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, February 17, 2007.

Gladys E. Scholtes, 93, of Ames, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Green Hills Health Care Center due to complications of pneumonia. Services will be held at a later date at the Collegiate Presbyterian Church with a reception following at Green Hills.
Gladys E. Scholtes was born in Jamestown, N.D., to Svenning and Cora (Loertscher) Tofte. She received her bachelor's degree from North Dakota State University and her master's from Iowa State University.

Gladys and her husband, Wayne, were devoted to ISU and were actively involved in many university activities. Gladys was past president of Faculty Women's Club and deaconess of the Collegiate Presbyterian Church, as well as a member of PEO, TTT, Playmaker's Club and many volunteer organizations. She and her husband lived in South America for several years during one of his teaching assignments. They enjoyed traveling throughout the world, learning new languages and exploring other cultures and customs.
Survivors include one son, Wayne H. Scholtes II, of Ames; two daughters, Beth Ann Meda, of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Mary Jane Chaffee, of Campbellsville, Ky.; and one grandson, Joe Chaffee, also of Campbellsville.

Memorials may be directed to the Scholtes Scholarship in Agronomy in care of the ISU Foundation.

Adams Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
