Aug. 31, 1916-Jan. 22, 2007James (Jim) Seibert, of Grimes, died Monday, Jan. 22. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 1001 S. James St., in Grimes.
James (Jim) Seibert was born Aug. 31, 1916, in Grimes. He owned and operated a farm between Grimes and Johnston all his life. He served in World War II in the 8th Air Force, 55th fighter group, 338th fighter squadron, as a crew chief where he earned the distinguished Bronze Star.
As a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes and a longtime member of the Lions Club and American Legion, he was active in the community for many years. His passions were his family, friends, helping others, telling a good story, and he particularly loved children (and they loved him).
He is survived by one sister, Pauline Besch; two daughters, Dee (Ron) Stenstrom and Donna (Cliff) Johnson; one granddaughter, Melissa (Kenny Toft) Stenstrom; one grandson, Jim Stenstrom; and two great-grandchildren Tarquinn and Chloe Stenstrom-Toft.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Cox Seibert; and two grandchildren, Cole Hughes and Chad Stenstrom.
Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 tonight at Gilbert Lutheran Church in Gilbert, and will continue from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service Thursday, Jan. 25, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes.
Donations can be made in his memory to Ames Bickford Cottage, Homeward Hospice through Mary Greeley Medical Center or St. Peter Lutheran Church.
Brandt Funeral Home in Dallas Center is in charge of arrangements.
