Steven C. Sampson, 54, of Ames, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Funeral services were today at Adams Funeral Home, with Jeff Dodge officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Steven C. Sampson was born May 31, 1952, in Ames, to Charles and Doris (Ballard) Sampson. He was a graduate of Ames High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the honor guard at Arlington Cemetery. He was employed as a banker.

He enjoyed fishing, kayaking, canoeing, baking and cooking and playing guitar and piano.

He is survived by his father, Charles Sampson, of Ames; two sons, Joe (Kelly) Sampson, of Bellefonte, Pa., and Mark Sampson, of Iowa City; one daughter, Megan Sampson, of Minneapolis; one sister, Susan (Danny) Kepley, of Ames; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Sampson.
