Elaine Mae Good, 74, of Zearing, died Saturday, Dec. 30, at Colonial Manor of Zearing, with family at her bedside. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Zearing. Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.

Elaine Mae Good was born March 31, 1932, in Marshalltown, to Lester Burdette Clark and Catherine Pauline Phillips. She graduated from Zearing High School in May 1950 and married Robert Lyle Good June 4, 1950, at EUB Church in Zearing. They had five children and lived in several locations in Virginia due to Robert's military commitments before returning to Zearing in 1952. She was employed as a bookkeeper at RL Good Oil Co. and Sons.

She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 116 for 55 years. She served in many offices, including unit and county president for several years. She also served as Auxiliary 6th district president in 1976 and created the local chapter of the Jr. Auxiliary while eventually serving as State Jr. Auxiliary activity chairman. She was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church of Zearing, directing the junior and senior choirs. She was heavily involved in the community by helping launch the Zearing Town and Country Club, later known as the Community Club. She also was an active member of the Ladies Aide.

When the Zearing newspaper closed operation in 1980, she initiated the Zearing monthly newsletter, which continues today. She operated Elaine's Kozy Korner, a café, in Zearing in 1957. She also drove a school bus for several years for NESCO community schools. As the choir director at Bethel United Methodist Church, her choir traveled the state singing at numerous church locations, including performing on the Church of the Air on Channel 8 in the 1970s.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Rick, of Zearing, Susanne (Paul) Anderson, Charlie (Michelli), of Zearing, and Kathy (Dana) Langenberg, of Urbandale; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Donald; one son, Robert H. Good; and an infant granddaughter, Miranda.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Bethel United Methodist Church in Zearing.

Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing is in charge of arrangements.
