Feb. 8, 1908-Nov. 26, 2006Ellen Stangeland, 98, died Sunday, Nov. 26, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.
Ellen Serina Stangeland was born Feb. 8, 1908, in Jewell to Severt and Gurina Rullestad. She graduated from Randall High School in 1926. She married Nikolai Stangeland Jan. 24, 1935, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. They farmed southeast of Jewell for 40 years and retired to Story City. She was active in the Sons of Norway and was a lifelong member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. She will be remembered as a devoted wife to Nikolai and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by one son, Robert, of Bonita Springs, Fla.; two granddaughters, Brenda (Rod) Vogel and Sherry (Marty) Schafer, of West Des Moines; three great-grandchildren, Nick, Jake and Rachel; and her sister-in-law and dear lifelong friend, Naomi Rullestad.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nikolai, in 2001; one sister, Sylva; and three brothers, Ernest, Cecil and Gilbert.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Bethany Manor in Story City.
Memorials may be given to Bethany Manor in Story City or Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell.
Becker Funeral Home in Jewell is in charge of arrangements.
