Ames Tribune. Roy E Bennett, 80, Roseville, Minn. formerly of Ames, died Saturday, Jan 3, 1981 in Roseville. Services will be 1:30 pm Wednesday, Jan 7, from Adams Funeral Home with Father Douglas B Haviland of St John's Episcopal Parish officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery. Mr Bennett was born Nov 6, 1900, in Eden, Ill. to Luke and Amy Bennett. He was a graduate of Ames High School and Iowa State College and lived in Ames for 34 years. He was married on June 17, 1925, to Norma Haverly at Little Brown Church, Nashua. For nine years he was a research assistant professor of soils at Iowa State University. He left Ames in 1935 to become a soil scientist with USDA Soil Conservation Service. After living in Missouri, Iowa and Milwaukee, Wis., he moved to St Paul in 1942. He retired in 1965 after 30 years with USDA. He was a charter member of Soil Conservation Society of America and a member of OPEDA. Survivors include his wife, Norma, Roseville, Minn; two sons, Wallace, Fargo, ND and Philip, Roseville, Minn. A daughter Mrs Robert Espelien, Melrose, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister. Visitation at Adams Funeral Home will be from noon Wednesday until time of service.
