Dale E. Tisdale dieday Saturday, Oct. 28, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Zearing. Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.

Dale E. Tisdale was born Sept. 27, 1913, in Zearing, to John and Vida (Johnson) Tisdale. He was a lifelong resident of Zearing. He graduated from the Lincoln Township Consolidated School in Zearing in 1931.

He served in the U.S. Army from April 1942 to October 1945 and was a World War II veteran. He served under Gen. Mark Clark with the 5th Army Battalion serving in the North African Campaign and the Italian Campaign. He received many honors, including the European African Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with bronze stars, five overseas services stars, one good conduct medal and a bronze star medal during the advance on Rome.

He married Dorothy Norene Pulley Feb. 10, 1946, and to this union four children, Tom, Mary and twins David and Donna, were born.

He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation as a payment auditor and in relocation assistance, Division of Highways. He retired in 1978.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 116, of Zearing, for 60 years, the Mayflower descendants in the state of Iowa and Bethel United Methodist Church in Zearing and served on the community business and service organization boards.

He was a ham radio enthusiast, a hobby he developed after serving in the Army. He also loved to fish, hunt and enjoyed photography and reading.

He is survived by his four children, Tom (Raylene) Tisdale, of Newton, Mary (Don) White, of Cedar Rapids, David (Kathy) Tisdale, of Zearing, and Donna (Alan) Mason, of New Ulm, Minn.; six grandchildren, Krista (Matt) Nissen, of Des Moines, Darin Tisdale, of Newton, Kala (Nathan) White, of State Center, Clint Tisdale, of Ames, Dana Mason, of New Ulm, Minn., and Kara Mason, of New Ulm, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dorothy Norene, on Feb. 22, 2002.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing.

Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing is in charge of arrangements.
