Donald Gilchrist
July 12, 1917-Oct. 24, 2006Donald Gilchrist, 89, of Ames, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Abbington on Grand. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Ames, with the Rev. John Anderson officiating.
Donald Gilchrist was born July 12, 1917, in Worth County, to William and Lulu (White) Gilchrist. He married Angelyn Rosalind Braland Sept. 30, 1949.
He was an animal caretaker at the Veterinary Medical Institute at Iowa State University. He was a retired member of the AFL-CIO, was active in church and loved animals, especially cows.
He is survived by his wife, Angelyn, of Ames; one daughter, Donna Gilchrist, of St. Louis; and one sister, Florence Osam, of Ames.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Adams Funeral Home in Ames is in charge of arrangements.
