Bernadane Ellen Quinn, 92, formerly of Ames, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Reno. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at St. Cecilia Burke Chapel in Ames.Bernadane Ellen Peterson Quinn was born Oct. 17, 1914, near Lincoln Center, to Harvey and Maud Caywood Peterson. She grew up in that area, attended a one-room country school and graduated in 1932 from Corning High School with a Normal Training Certificate to teach.
She taught in a one-room country school before her marriage to Joe Quinn on Oct. 15, 1934, at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Reno. They were the parents of four daughters. They farmed in Lincoln Township in Adams County until Joe's death in 1965. In 1967, she moved to Ames and worked at the University Book Store until her retirement in 1979. She was an avid reader, a hiker, enjoyed baking and was devoted to her family.
She is survived by daughters, Kathryn (Gary) Aitchison, of Ames, Ellen Quinn, of Austin, Texas, Patricia Hensely, of Cumberland, and Karen (Jeremiah) Quinn-Shanahan, of Westborough, Mass. Also surviving are eight grandsons, four granddaughters, 25 great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; son-in-law, Larry Hensley; four younger brothers, Louis, Max, Dale and Bill; one great-granddaughter; eight brothers-in-law; and six sisters-in-law.
