Everett G. Stoneberg, 87, of Ames, died Wednesday, Oct. 4. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Everett G. Stoneberg was born May 17, 1919, in Ida County, to George and Mabel (Ahrenholtz) Stoneberg. He graduated from Odebolt High School in 1936. He completed a bachelor's degree from Iowa State College in 1942 and a master's degree in agricultural economics in 1953. He was employed with ISU Extension in Tipton and Denison. He accepted a faculty position in Extension at ISU in 1959 and retired in 1980.

He served with the U.S. Navy from 1942-45. He married Lola Mentzer Dec. 5, 1943. He was a member of Collegiate United Methodist Church and the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers.

He was a lifelong walleye fisherman and made numerous trips to Minnesota and Canada with family and friends. He enjoyed woodworking, investing and sharing stories with friends over breakfast or lunch.

He is survived by one son, Dennis Stoneberg, of Ames; two daughters, Marian (Kevin) Kelly, of Lincoln, Neb., and Linda (James) Carollo, of Cedar Rapids; one granddaughter, Kristen Carollo, of Cedar Rapids; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lola, in 2003; and two sisters, Arlene Jones and Doreen Follenweider.

A visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 tonight at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Collegiate United Methodist Church, ISU Extension Foundation or the Cancer Society.
