Velda M. Noring, 84, of Indianola, died Friday, Aug. 18, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, from pulmonary fibrosis. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Collins United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Collins.Velda was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Collins, to Tighlman and Ethel (Torry) Shickell. She graduated from Collins High School with the Class of 1939.
She married Verne M. Noring June 21, 1941, at her parents' home near Collins. To this union, two sons were born, Verlyn and Vaughn. She helped her husband on the farm and was a homemaker until their retirement in 1984. Following their retirement, they moved to Indianola, where Velda worked as a hostess at Hardees for 18 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Colo and a member of Collins United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Verlyn (Louise), of Indianola, and Vaughn (Rowena), of Urbandale; two grandchildren, Katie (Wes) Nyberg, of Ankeny, and Timothy (Cassidy) Noring, of West Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Verne; two brothers, the Rev. Virgil Shickell and Donald Shickell; and two sisters, Gladoline Streeter and Genevieve Geisler.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 tonight at Fredregill Funeral Home in Collins with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
