THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, April 19, 2006.
James Thompson, 51, of Story City, died Wednesday, April 12. A gathering of friends will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 22, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames.
James was born Dec. 13, 1954, in Prophetstown, Ill., to Leonard and Alexina (LeBlanc) Thompson. He received a doctorate from Iowa State University and worked as a psychologist at Fifth Street Mental Health Professionals in Ames. He was a member of the Story City Kiwanis Club, enjoyed the outdoors and nature, playing tennis and golf, walking, working on his house and quiet time.
He is survived by his stepmother, Florence Thompson, his life partner, Wendy Bevin and her children Ethan, Erin and Evan Green, all of Story City; his children, Clover (Clayton) Mentzer of Des Moines, Zach Thompson and Julia Thompson of Ankeny; one sister, Jean (Jeff) Anliker of Belchertown, Mass.; two stepbrothers; one stepsister; two stepchildren, Alison Howar and Taylor Howar and their families; and four grandchildren. Other survivors include all of the lives he touched and all of the people he devoted his professional life to.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Adams Funeral Home in Ames is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Story City Kiwanis or the Department of Natural Resources to Ledges State Park.
