THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, April 19, 2006.
Clifford R. Ball, 74, Ames, died of complications of heart disease Tuesday, April 18, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 21, at Stevens Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Henrietta Klarenbeek officiating. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment at Story Memorial Gardens will be at a later date.
Clifford was born Aug. 23, 1931, near Madrid to Clifford W. and Dorothy (Muck) Ball. He attended North Grant and Ames schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1949-52. He married Delores Ferguson Aug. 15, 1953, in Ames.
Clifford retired as a captain, in 1986, from the Ames Police Department, following a 30-year career. Prior to joining the force, he was a truck driver. He enjoyed fishing and his great love was refinishing and building furniture.
He is survived by his wife, Delores Ball of Ames; two daughters, Vicki (Dean) Hubby and Linda Curnes, all of Ames; two sons, Don (Cindy) Ball of Boone and James (Connie) Ball of Nevada; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Clyde (Barb) Ball of Nevada, Tom (Connie) Ball of Gilbert, Wayne Ball of Boone and Denny Ball of Gilbert; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Shirley Moe.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
