Terry Spiess, 57, of Ames, died Tuesday, March 21, in Rochester, Minn., due to complications of pancreatitis. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 24, at First United Methodist Church in Ames with reception to follow.
Terry was born Feb. 20, 1949, in Fort Dodge, the son of Donald and Dorothy Spiess. He attended Britt schools, graduating from Britt High School in 1968.
He married Nancy Hamilton on June 17, 1972, in Britt. The couple made their home in Iowa Falls, Chariton and Nevada before moving to Ames in 1998. He was employed as head electrician at Mary Greeley Medical Center for 12 years before he started his own electrical business, Terry's Electric Inc.
His love of classic cars was exceeded only by his love for his family and friends. He and Nancy were members of the Ames Cyclone Corvette Club.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; one son, Tory and his fiancée, Eva; and one daughter, Tanya. He is also survived by his father-in-law, John Hamilton of Story City; two sisters-in-law, Laura Hamilton of Stillwater, Minn., and Colleen Hamilton of Ames; his brother-in-law and wife, Tim and Karen Hamilton of Alburnett, and their two children, Jahan and Anjali. Terry leaves many friends throughout the state.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Dorothy Spiess; and his mother-in-law, Jean Hamilton.
