My paternal ggrandmother, Mary Tremel immigrated with her husband Charles about 1874. They were in Carroll Co IA, where her husband died in 1875, just after the birth of their son Charles, my grandfather. There were 3 other children living when she married Anton Bernemann in 1876.
They sold the Tremel farm in Carroll Co in 1882, and moved their family to Welcome Twp, where they bought land in 1883. By this time there were 7 children in the family. They were Theresa, Maurice, Emma and William Bernemann, and John, Mary, Catherine and Charles Tremel.
In 1885, diphtheria ravaged this family, baby William Bernemann died April 15, 1885, then “Terracy” or Theresa Bernemann, age 8, died on Apr 19, 1885. They are said to have been buried in Lincoln Twp.
Can anyone tell me if these children were buried in the Catholic cemetery at Hull? Several years ago, I searched in Rock Valley, and was unable to find any records.
Additionally, when the Tremel family emigrated, they had to leave one of their children behind. Mary Tremel Bernemann was elated when her husband Anton went to Germany to return with her son, Joseph. Family recall is that he was only in Sioux Co for a brief time, when he was fatally injured after being kicked by a horse. Sioux County records state he died in Welcome Twp, Nov 9, 1891 and was buried in Hull. Is he buried where the 2 Bernemann children were interred?
I would like to find these graves. Can anyone help me? Thank you.
