Well, it certainly doesn't help that in the midst of the flu and a Nyquil induced haze, I posted the spiel for West Michigan. Has my brain been less foggy, I would have posted the spiel about how the family live in Souix County for quite a few years before moving to Michigan. In fact, the eldest daughter Lubbertha Evink Korthals married and lived her life in Souix County. Sorry for the confusion caused by my mistake. Here is the complete info,...
I am trying to create a five generation photo family tree. I have thousands of old family photographs, however, I have never seen photos of three family members. After five generations, these people have hundreds of descendants out there and someone here might just have the photos I am seeking. I understand though, given the time in which these people lived and their financial circumstances, it is possible that they may never have had photographs taken or, if they did, precious few.
First, I am seeking a photo of a set of great-great grandparents, Gerrit Evink and his wife Fennigje Hijmans. Gerrit was born 24 Sep 1866 in Doornspijk, Gelderland, Netherlands and died 1 Feb 1944 in Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan. Fennigje (Fanny) was born 9 Apr 1870 in Doornspijk, Gelderland, Netherlands and died there 9 Jan 1900. Gerrit, along with his second wife Willemijna, also resided in Souix County Iowa, and Kent County Michigan for short times before moving to Holland, Michigan. Their elderst daughter married and remained in Souix County.
I also want a photo of their son (my great-grandfather) Koert Evink who was born 14 Sep 1892 in the Netherlands. I am unsure of when or where he died. His last known residence was Holland, Michigan. Koert was wanted on local and federal criminal charges, including draft evasion.
Because of this, he fled, abandoning his wife and children, and mostly likely changing his identity. There was suspicion that Koert returned to Souix County under an alias. After the death of his wife, his children, my grandmother included, were adopted by his wife’s extended family. This Koert Evink is not to be confused with his double cousin (son of Willwm Evink and Marrigje Hijamans) of almost identical age, who resided in Minnesota and was married to Jacoba De Vries. This family had branches in Souix County Iowa, along with Muskegon, Holland, Grand Rapids, Ravenna, and Grant Michigan. Last names related to Koert’s siblings and their children include Steenhoven (Seaman, Morrison, Wamser, Kwolek Kochmanski, Bayne), DenBraber, and Korthals(Freerks, Green, VanWesten, Krull). If anyone has any photos, whether they are individual or group, and of any age, for any of these three people, I would be extremely grateful for the opportunity to have digital copies. In exchange, I will happily share any genealogical information I have on the Koert Evink branch of the family Tree from the West Michigan area.
