Alton Democrat of Feb 21, 1914
Death claims Mrs. Leo Hansen
On Monday morning Feb. 16, 1914 the Angel of Death came to call another young soul to her eternal reward, when Mrs. Leo J. Hansen departed this life at the hospital in Dell Rapids SD. She had under gone an operation on Wednesday Feb 11, 1914 and at first gave her loved ones fair hopes for recovery, but early on Monday morning the Death Angel came to relieve her from the ills and sufferings of this world. Mrs. Hansen, whose maiden name was Catherine Mousel, was born on Oct 13, 187, at White Lake SD. Later she moved with her parents to Alton, and so she was reared to womanhood right here at Alton, where she was ever held in high esteem and loved by all who knew her.On Jan 10, 1911 she was untied in marriage to Leo J. Hansen at St. Mary’s church of Alton and on March 1911 they moved onto their farm home close to Dell Rapids, here they have lived since and where the deceased won for herself a host of friends by her amiable ways and kind hospitality. She was a devout member of the Catholic church and an active member of the Ladies Altar Society of St. Mary’s church at Dell Rapids SD. On Tuesday morning the body was taken to St. Mary’s church at Dell Rapids where Rev. C. V. Boley sang a Requiem High Mass and many relatives and friends were present to pay their last tribute to the deceased.
Following that, the body was take to the depot at Dell Rapids, whence it was brought here accompanied by the husband of the deceased Leo J. Hansen her pastor, Rev. C. c. Boley, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Mousel, her husband’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hansen and several other relatives and friends. The body arrived here on Tuesday afternoon and was taken to the home of the parent of the deceased, where many relatives and friends gathered to take a last look at her remains and where also many floral offering were brought. On Thursday Morning at 9:30 occurred the funeral here at St. Mary’s church in the presence of a large assembly of relatives and friends. Very Rev. F. J. Brune sang Requiem High Mass and delivered a very touching sermon after which she was laid to rest in St. Mary’s cemetery.
Many from out of town attended the funeral among them were: Rev. C. C. Boley of Dell Rapids SD, Mrs. Peter Hurscht of Windom MN, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Plathe of Paulin, Mr. and Mrs. Mat Konz of Granville, Mr. and Mrs. John Mousel, Mr. and Mrs. Klein, Mr. and Mrs. John Fransen Dell Rapids SD, Martin Hoffmann of Alta Vista IA, Besides her husband the deceased leaves to mourn her untimely death, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Mousel, and seven sisters and four brothers. All of whom were present at the funeral. Death seems cruel and hard at all times but in this particular case it seems most distressing, having severed a bond of love, so recently and happily made. Surely, the sympathy of a host of friends goes out to the bereaved husband and parents. We must feel with them, that although death has again nipped a flower in full bloom there is an all wise Providence who directs everything in the best way, so that cruelty is turned into blessing, Oh not in cruelty, not in wrath the Reaper came that day, T’was an Angel visited the green earth and took the flowers away. And said though the breath of these flowers is sweet to me, I will give them all back again… Contributed
