Regarding the Niekens:

Maurice Times January 24, 1924
Receives word of Death of Step father.
Mrs. Ben Kots received the sad news last Wednesday of the sudden death of her stepfather, Mr.Geo. Nieken of Orange City. Mr. Nieken who was seventy three years old was apparently a very
healthy man. Since the death of his wife he had lived alone in Orange City but spent much of
his time at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Bonnes. He and Mr. Bonnes were life- long friends.
They went to school together, crossed the ocean from Holland on the same ship and were neighbors
here for many years. On Wednesday he ate his last dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Bonnes. He walked
from their home to the drug store where he suddenly dropped dead.

The funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the First Christian Reformed church at Orange
City, Rev. Haan the pastor ducting the services. He was laid to rest by the side of his wife at
Sandstone, Minn.

Mr. Nieken is survived by one adopted son who lives at Maple Lake MN. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kots, Gerrit and Henry Kots. Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Brink and F. Popma went to Orange City Friday to attend the funeral.

(It can be assumed that his first wife is buried at Sandstone MN from the information in the above obituary.)

Hawarden Independent January 31, 1924
Gerrit Nieken of Orange City passed away suddenly last Wednesday. He had gone into Geselschap's drug store for some medicine and while he was waiting for it he dropped dead. He remarked as he entered that he was not feeling well. The body was sent to Sandstone, Minn., for burial.

Marriage found on Familysearch.org
Geert Nieken born Netherlands, married 6 Feb 1912 at Orange City (not Sioux City) to Jissie Boersma. He was the son of Jacob Nieken and Etje Prumene.

???1900 Census of Dell Grove Pine Lake Tsp. Pine Minnesota Geert Nickan (Nieken) born May 1850 Holland, spouse was Annie Nickan children John Nickan and Willimina Nickan

No death date or article found on the second wife as she died pior to April 21, 1922 .
Sioux County Index April 21, 1922
Court house News.
Gerrit Nieken was appointed Executor of the estate of Jetske Nieken

Alton Democrat February 10, 1912
Mrs. H. Kramer and G. Neiken were united in marriage Tuesday by Rev. Timmerman. Only a few intimate friends were present at the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Nieken will reside in this city.

The 1920 census of Holland Tsp. Sioux County lists
Gerrit Nieken born abt 1851 Neth. wife Jessie 70 years old

In the Sioux County cemetery index is listed a Mrs. H. M. Kramer born 1849 died 1920. This could well be the Mrs. H. Kramer the Gerrit Nieken married in 1912.

I am not home right now so can’t check the 1920 death records on the county level for the second wife Jessie or Jetske Boersma Kramer Nieken.

I did find in the Minnesota death records a Henriette G. Nicken (Nieken) died 26 Nov 1908 in Pine Co. MN. I am sure this is the first wife.
