The Sioux County Capital says May 3. It does give her age at death as 66 yrs 9 months and 17 days. I am not sure how to figure that .
Sioux County Capital of May 21, 1953
Mrs, H. Van Asselt Succumbs at Alton Husband, 5 Children Survive Stroke Victim Funeral services were held thisveek from the Alton Reformed church for Mrs. Henry Van Asselt, who died Sunday, May 17, after suffering a stroke. Rev. E. Van Engelenhoven conducted the rites and interment was made in Nassau township cemetery. Born in the Netherlands, July 3, 1886, Mrs. Van Asselt was Toontje Zandbergen before her marriage. She was married August 8, 1912, to Henry Van Asselt and the young couple came to this country in June, 1913.
Seven children were born to them. Among the survivors are her husband, Henry Van Asselt; John Van Asselt of Irwin, La.; Gertrude (Mrs. Ernest) Loewen of Alton, Henry Van Asselt, jr., of Ainsworth, Neb.; and Franklin and Francis of Alton. Two of the children, Anna (Mrs. C.) Huisman and an infant preceded Mrs. Van Asselt in death. A brother and a sister also survive in the Netherlands, and there are nine grandchildren living. Mrs. Van Asselt died at the ageof 66 years, nine months and 17 days. The Alton Democrat obituary on page six of May 21 1953 states That she was born July 13th 1886. So there in lies the difference. Both obits state the funeral was in the Alton Reformed church and she was buried in Nassau Township cemetery. The cemetery index just gives the year of birth and death.
Henry was born July 3, 1889 and died Feb 1968 at Alton. Social security death record. Her death is not listed.
My only other thought is the county death record may have her birth date on it. That would have to come from the court house in Orange City.
One more idea is the church membership record usually has the birth date of the members. Contact the secretary of the Alton Reformed church for a search of the family membership record.
Surely a descendant would have that recorded some where you would think.
If you have tried all that without success, let me know, I may have a contact in the Netherlands who can find the birth record.
