In Response To: Wood, Guy, John, Thomas (Bob Wood)

I have found the obit that was in the Hawarden newspaper of April 18, 1901. We have the Hawarden microfilm at the Sioux Center Library through 1910, so the death of John will have to be gotten from the Hawarden Library. I am planned to go there in the next 10 days to do some look ups and will do your look ups then too.
Our library had a fire and we lost our reader printer, so I have no way to print the obit of Guy H. Wood out for you right now. I have a mechanical microfilm reader so her it is:

Guy H. Wood departed this life last Saturday morning at the early age of 24 yrs, 5 months and 10 days from pneunmonia. His death came as quite a shcok to his numerous friends, many of whom had not learned of his illness which began just one week previous. The deceased was born at Rudd IA, in 1876 and came to this place with his parents in 1890. In Oct 18, 1899 he was united in marriage to Miss Gertrude Ham, to which two children came to bless their union. Besides his wife and children who are left to mourn his loss their also is his father, seven brothers and sisters. As he was nearing the dark valley of Death his last words were to his wife, as he called to her to come and go home with im. Out of respect for the deceased the barber shops of the city were closed and his fellow workmen attended the funeral in body. The services were at the Baptist church which was filled with friends of the bereaved ones to pay thier last respect to the deceased.

I looked back a couple weeks for an article about Guy rescueing someone but found none.

I will need your address to send you the items I will find in Hawarden.
