Elijah Clayton Mount of Beresford passed away at his homo there Monday night, May 16th, following a lingering illness. Mr. Mount operated a variety store at Hawarden for a short time but left here some thirty years ago. He was born in Montgomery county, Ind., Feb. 27, 1845, and he moved to Guthrie county, Iowa, when he was but nine years old.

He was a Civil War veteran. He was a member of the Masonic lodge with which he had been associated for years. He was presented with a 50 year jewel of the organization a little over a year ago. He was united in marriage with Maria J. Hart on January 14,1872, and to this union six children were born, five of whom survive
