Mrs. Paula Sullivan Harkness, age 55, of Hawarden, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She fought a courageous five-year battle with Multiple Myeloma.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, July 13, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Adam Van Der Stoep officiating. Following the service, there will be a time of lunch and visitation with the family at the church. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements.

Paula Ann was born on July 22, 1968, in Hawarden, the second of four children born to Phillip E. and Connie J. (Tupker) Sullivan. She was raised in Hawarden, where she graduated from the West Sioux High School.

On January 31, 1987, she married John A. Harkness in Akron. They made their home in Hawarden, where they raised their two children, Shelby and Jayce. John passed away unexpectedly at the age of 49, on December 21, 2017, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, after more than 30 years of marriage.

Paula liked to bake and collect knick-knacks, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her three granddaughters.

Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Shelby and Cody Kiers, of Hull; her son, Jayce Harkness, of Hawarden; three grandchildren, Isabelle, Abigail, and Carlie Kiers; her mother, Connie Sullivan, of Hawarden; three siblings, Beth, and her husband, Doyle Schubert, of Rock Rapids; Bryce Sullivan, and his wife, Staci, of Emery, South Dakota; and Marcy Sullivan of Hawarden; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Harkness, and her father, Phillip Sullivan.

Memorials will be given to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
