Mrs. Eleanor Warntjes, age 89, of Hull, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Thursday, July 25, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. There will be a funeral service on Friday, July 26, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Adam Van Der Stoep officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.

Eleanor Warntjes was born on February 3, 1935, on her family’s farm north of Hull, the daughter of Henry and Ella (Bos) Boeve. She grew up near Hull and attended country school.

She married John Henry Warntjes, the son of John J. and Marie (Van Maanen) Warntjes, on May 13, 1955. Johnny served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956, stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, where Eleanor joined him after they were married. Following Johnny’s honorable discharge, he and Eleanor farmed southeast of Hull for many years until moving into Hull in 1989. Eleanor and John were “thrifters” long before it was cool, going to many rummage sales and auctions. They were also “snowbirds” in the McAllen, Texas area for many years, enjoying the warmer weather and playing cards with many other friends from Northwest Iowa. John passed away on April 24, 2009, in Sheldon, after more than 53 years of marriage.

In retirement, Eleanor enjoyed crocheting, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, going to water aerobics, gardening, and being a member of the Red Hat Society. More than anything, Eleanor loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Eleanor is survived by her and John’s five children and their spouses, Jerry and Lori Warntjes, of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; Laura and Norman Thompson, of Browerville, Minnesota; Daryl and LaVonne Warntjes, of Hull; David and Megan Warntjes, of Beloit, Wisconsin; and Mike and Lisa Warntjes, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; twenty grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Doreen and Arnold Hulshof, of Sioux Center; a brother, Jim Boeve, of Beaver Creek, Minnesota; a sister-in-law and her husband, Lois and Roger Baatz, of Rock Rapids; a dear cousin, Esther Warntjes; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Warntjes; nine brothers, Henry, Case, Albert, Donald, Arthur, Everett, Merlin, Ervin and Gary Boeve; and three sisters, Gertie Leusink, Lois Oostra and Helen Overman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to Hope Haven in Rock Valley.
