There will be a public memorial service on Tuesday, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Mark Haverdink officiating. A meal and time of visitation will follow the service, at the church, until 1:30pm.

Kenneth Dale was born on March 5, 1947, at the Doornink Hospital in Orange City, the son of Christaan and Grace Marie (Nibbelink) Rowenhorst. He was raised on a farm north of Orange City, attended the Orange City Christian School and Western Christian High School, and graduated from the American School of Chicago. Ken worked as a serviceman for Orange City Co-op Gas until he began farming with his parents. At the age of twenty, he made a public commitment to Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

On June 27, 1967, he was united in marriage to Loretta Elaine Boer in Sanborn. Ken believed he was called to farm, even as a young child. He and Lori made their home on a farm near Orange City, where they were dairy farmers until 1990. They continued farming, feeding cattle, and Ken was a Pioneer Seed representative for twenty years.

Ken was a life-long member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City. He served on the Finance Board of the Orange City Christian School and on the board of Rural Water #1. He enjoyed spending time with his family, both at home and attending various activities they participated in. Every day, he would find something humorous to share with his family involving his children, dogs, and animals he worked with.

Survivors include his wife of more than 56 years, Lori, of Orange City; two children and their spouses, Pam and Mark Ten Napel, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Paul and Melissa Rowenhorst, of Redfield, South Dakota; five grandchildren, Mikkel, and her husband, Ryan Schreiner, of Kansas City, Kansas; Joey Ten Napel, and his wife, Mackenzie, of McKinney, Texas; and Stephen, Luke, and Jonathan Rowenhorst, of Redfield; two great-grandsons, Lincoln and Landon Schreiner; two sisters-in-law, Nelva Rowenhorst, of Orange City; and Thelma Boer, of Denver, Colorado; a brother-in-law and his wife, Peter and Nancy Boer, of Elmhurst, Illinois; one niece; and six nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Rowenhorst; a brother-in-law, Irv Boer; and two nephews, Randy Rowenhorst and Thomas Boer.

Memorials will be given to the Orange City Christian School and the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
