Mr. Teunis “Henk” Aarsen, age 84, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at his home.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Thursday, June 13, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. A prayer service will take place on Friday, June 14, at 2:30pm, at the funeral home, followed by interment at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a memorial service on Friday, at 3:30pm, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Mark Haverdink officiating.

Teunis Hendrik “Henk” was born on June 12, 1939, in the Netherlands, the son of Teunis Hendrik and Martha (Van Roekel) Aarsen. He was raised in the Netherlands until the age of sixteen, when his family moved to Orange City. He graduated from the Orange City High School before enlisting in the United States Army, where he served until being honorably discharge in 1963.

On March 2, 1962, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Geraline Colenbrander in Sioux Center. Together they made their home in Orange City, where Henk owned and operated Aarsen Painting, which had been started by his father. Sylvia passed away on December 28, 2003, in Orange City, after more than forty years of marriage.

Mr. Aarsen was a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City. In his earlier years, he liked to go bowling, and always enjoyed reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, and playing cards and board games.

Survivors include his son, Dennis Aarsen, of Orange City; his daughter and her husband, Harriet and Gregory Quick, of Jesup; a brother and his wife, Bert and Peggy Aarsen, of Arnold’s Park; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, Hans and Alana Aarsen.

Memorials will be given to the family for future designation.
