There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, May 29, at 10:30am, at the church with the Rev. Jeremy Winter officiating. Interment will follow the service at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Merwin Lew was born on November 2, 1947, in Sheldon, one of three sons born to Lewis and Marie (Bosman) Heitritter. He was raised in Boyden and graduated from the Boyden-Hull High School. He attended Westmar University in Le Mars for a short time before enlisting in the United States Air Force, stationed in New Mexico. After being honorably discharged in 1969, he attended Northwestern College in Orange City, where he played on the football team and graduated with a bachelor’s degree.

On September 18, 2004, he married Karen Ten Haken in South Sioux City, Nebraska. They made their home on a farm near Boyden, where they were members of the St. John Lutheran Church, and spent their winters in Marco Island, Florida. Feets enjoyed going golfing and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. In his younger years, he also liked to play fast-pitch softball.

Feets was here, and now he’s home but will be deeply missed by his wife, Karen, of almost twenty years; his daughter and her husband, Jody Heitritter and Jason Gebauer, of Sioux Falls; two step-children and their spouses, Audra and Larry Ford, of Roland; and Ryan and Kelley Kosters, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; one granddaughter, Amber Heitritter; three step-grandchildren, Jacob Ford, Kaden Kosters, and Brenden Kosters; a brother and his wife, Ronald and Lynn Heitritter, of Edmonds, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, Laryl “Joe” and Sharon Heitritter; and a niece, Shannon Heitritter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the St. John Lutheran Church.
