Oscar Schumacher
Oscar J. Schumacher, 67, lifelong Alton resident, died Wednesday, May 25 in Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars after a lengthy illness.
Services were Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton with Monsignor Nicholas J. Ruba and the Rev. Tony Schumacher, a brother, concelebrating. Burial was in St. Mary's parish cemetery in Alton under direction of the Luedtke-Feuerstein Funeral Home of LeMars.

Mr. Schumacher was born Sept. 23, 1920 in Alton, son of Nick and Mary (Meyers) Schumacher. He attended school in Alton and graduated from St. Mary's Academy. He worked for several years for his father at the Schumacher Blacksmith and Implement Repair Shop and became owner of the business in 1956. He retired in 1978 because of poor health.

Mr. Schumacher was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in North Africa and Italy. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Northwest
Iowa Blacksmith's Association and the Alton Fire Department.

Survivors include two brothers, Dr. Peter Schumacher of Le Mars and Father Tony Schumacher of Oregon, Wis., several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, the Rev. George and Leo and a sister,
Madeleine
