Mr. Jeffery Crull, age 71, of Sioux City, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, due to a complication from an infection he contracted on the mission field in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, June 1, at 10:30am, at the Heartland Community Baptist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Gene Stockton officiating. Lunch and a time of visitation with the family will take place at the church immediately following the service.

Jeffery was born to Gilbert and Flora (Mustert) Crull on January 14, 1953, in Freeport, Illinois. He was raised on a farm in Ridott, Illinois and graduated from Pecatonica High School in 1971. He continued his education at Dordt College in Sioux Center, where he graduated in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a minor in biology. He had a diverse set of talents and abilities and had many different career paths, including being an EMT, lifeguard, pharmaceutical salesman, fire alarm salesman, real estate agent and general contractor.

Jeff was a musical and artistic man who sang in barber quartets, gospel groups, and worship team at his church. He was always designing and creating and poured his heart and soul into building his dream home. Other talents throughout his life include playing the trombone, playing basketball, clowning, telling a great story and telling his beloved Dad/barber shop jokes.

In the 90s, Jeff went on his first mission trip to teach English in Poland and fell in love with the people there. Over the years, he became a true fisher of men. He ministered in Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Uganda and DRC. His final trip to DRC was his 56th trip. Jeff’s mission field wasn’t only overseas. He also wrote to prisoners, volunteered at the Gospel Mission, employed men who needed a second chance and led a Bible Study on Saturday mornings around his dining room table. Sound biblical teaching was always playing on his radio in the shop or the house. Jeff gave his life serving The One that saved him, and we believe he wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

He is survived by his three children, Shawn and Becky Crull of Vancouver, Washington; Holly (Crull) and Mayomi Ajofotan of Maurice; and Adam and Kelly Crull of Reno, Nevada; his grandchildren, Johnathan and Francese Crull, Sarah (Crull) and Brad Dallair, Brodie, Camryn, Alex and Eliana Van Zee and Ashton Crull; his great grandchildren, Genevieve, Camila, Henry and baby Crull due in August; his siblings, Stephen and Patricia Crull, of Sioux Center;, Terry and Joan Crull, of Hays, Kansas; and Kimberly and William Backeburg of Ridott; numerous nieces and nephews and a lifetime of those touched by his life.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents and his great grandson, Lucas Ezekiel Dallair.

Memorials will be given to the Heartland Community Baptist Church mission fund.
