October 14, 1926DEATH CALLS THOS. WATSON
Only Child in Family Dies From Diphtheria
Thirteen Year Old Boy succumbs to Dread Disease.
Interment Made This MorningThomas William Watson, the 13 year old son of Mr. and Mrs Thos. Watson of this city, died at his home here at 1:45 Wednesday afternoon following a brief illness from diphtheria. He was taken sick less than two weeks ago and for several days the past week his condition was regarded as very critical. The early part of this week he seemed to be very much improved and his recovery seemed probable but he suffered a relapse Tuesday night and in his weakened condition was unable to throw off the poisons which had developed in his system and his death ensued. As the home is under quarantine no public funeral service could be held but interment took place at 10:30 this morning in Grace Hill cemetery. Rev. J.W. LaGrone, pastor of the Methodist Church, conducted the burial service. Thomas was the only remaining child of six born to Mr. and Mrs. Watson and his death came as a severe blow to his parents who had fairly idolized him. He was born in Hawarden June 14, 1913, so was but little past 13 years of age. he was a regular attendant at school where he was regarded as an unusually bright child and was very popular among his playmates. His sudden death is not only a cruel blow to his parents but is an occasion for deep sorrow among his classmates and young friends. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the grief stricken parents in the heavy burden which they have been called upon to bear.
