There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, at 11:00am, at the New Hope Evangelical Free Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Jeffrey Whitt officiating. Refreshments and a time of visitation with the family will take place at the church immediately following the service.

Marcia Layne was born on April 10, 1950, in Wakefield, Nebraska, the youngest of two children born to Lee and Myrtle (Schulz) Stauffer. She grew up in Wakefield and graduated from the Wakefield Public High School. Furthering her education, she attended Wayne State College in Nebraska. During that time, she was married to Randall G. Olson in Wakefield, and they made their home in Bancroft, Nebraska. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she taught high school english and speech in Pender, Nebraska. Eventually, Marcia’s young family moved to Sioux Center, and later, Orange City. Marcia was married for 35 years, and they were blessed with four children and thirteen grandchildren. Marcia loved teaching at Northwestern College in Orange City, where her kids attended. During that time, she also received her master’s degree from the University of Sioux Falls. After eleven years, Marcia was ready to take on a new challenge by becoming the director of the Northwest Iowa Alcohol & Drug Treatment Center, where she served so many. When it came time to retire, Marcia moved into Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, a place she has been happy to call home.

Marcia was a founding member of New Hope Evangelical Free Church in Orange City. She enjoyed being involved in many different roles and especially loved to worship God through singing. She was also an active mom and grandma. She spent most of her days sitting on the bleachers watching her children and grandchildren play sports and found so much enjoyment in that. She loved to remind us that she may not have played sports in high school, but she was the badminton champion in physical education class! She loved a good book, enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, hosting Bible studies for Youth For Christ with teenagers, and later held bible studies and prayer time with the residents in the care center. In recent years, she enjoyed coloring inspirational cards to share with others. She loved to give them to her family for special occasions and always included a note of encouragement on the back. Every Easter, she would color one for the residents in her wing so each person would have something special at his/her place at the table. Marcia’s goal in life was to love others well and to share God’s Word so that others could know Him. Marcia’s smile was contagious, she was a constant encourager, gifted in mercy, and loved her family with all of her heart.

Survivors include three children; Cameron Olson, and his wife, Heather, of Charleston, South Carolina; Lindsay, and her husband, Brady Aalbers, of Alton; and Nicholas Olson, of Orange City; a daughter-in-law, Joanie Olson, of Janesville, Minnesota; thirteen grandchildren, Charlee, Bria, and Juliet Olson; Jenna, Carter, Blake, and Jordyn Aalbers; Shea Olson; and Emily, Faith, Alison, Katelyn, and Mallory Olson; and her two “sisters for life” and their husbands, Rhonda and Bill Blecke, and Rita and Chuck Pfenning.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Lyncon Mikel Olson; and a brother and his wife, Lee and Donna Stauffer.

Memorials will be given to the New Hope Evangelical Free Church in Orange City and the Lyncon Olson Family Memorial Fund.
