Jay Lynn was born on April 22, 1955, in Sioux Center, the son of John Arthur and Judith Marie (Koerselman) Visser. He was raised in Hull and graduated from the Boyden-Hull High School and the Iowa State University in Ames, where he met his future wife.

While a student at Iowa State, he met Jeanne Marie Michels, and they were married on October 14, 1978, in New Haven. They first made their home in Sioux City, where Jay spent five years working at Northwestern Bank. He and Jeanne later moved to Hull, where Jay joined his father at Visser Feed and Produce. As the business grew, Jay eventually acquired Sioux Feed Company in Sioux Center. Jay genuinely loved his work and looked forward to it every day.

Mr. Visser was a member of the First Reformed Church in Hull, where he served as a deacon, teacher, youth sponsor, member of the missions and outreach team, and on the valet parking team. He also spent many years on the Rolling Hills Golf Course Board, and golfing was one of his favorite summertime activities. Cooking a variety of meats on the grill was another favorite activity. Over the last ten years, Jay and three of his friends made it their mission to experience great steakhouses in different parts of the country. He closely followed the Iowa State Cyclones and loved traveling to visit his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of more than 45 years, Jeanne, of Hull; his three sons and their wives, Evan and Tamyres Visser, of Houston, Texas; Mark and Ellie Visser, of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Jeff and Darriane, of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Noah and Maya Visser; and Peter and John Visser; three siblings and their spouses, Robert and Karen Visser, of Austin, Texas; Larry and Pam Visser, of Oakdale, Minnesota; and Laura and Jody Gravedoni, of Omaha, Nebraska; Jeanne’s siblings, Mike Michels, and his wife, Grace, of Des Moines; Karen, and her husband, Bob Kazel, of Osage; Barb, and her husband, Lee Kazma, of Des Moines; Nancy, and her husband, Nick Dreliozis, of Muskegon, Michigan; Lori, and her husband, Dan Huntley, of Dallas, Texas; Steve Michels, of Paris, Tennessee; Julie, and her husband, Ray Avila, of New Haven; Rick Michels, of Dallas, Texas; and Paul Michels, and his wife, Jane, of Ogden, Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother of Jeanne, Jim Michels.

Memorials will be given to First Reformed Church Missions and Outreach.
