A prayer service will take place on Tuesday, October 10, at 1:30pm, at the church, followed by interment at the Hospers Cemetery near Hospers. There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, at 2:30pm, at the church with the Rev. Aaron Gonzalez officiating. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers is in charge of arrangements.

Roger Alan was born on December 29, 1953, to Gerrit and Mary (Van Holland) Jacobsma, in Hudson, South Dakota. The family farmed for many years in the South Dakota and Minnesota area before settling near Edgerton, where Roger met his future wife, Cheryl Hendriks.

They were married on December 28, 1974, and raised three children on a farm by Comfrey, Minnesota, where Roger worked at a grain elevator. The kids loved helping their dad on the farm and wrestling with him when he got home. The Jacobsma family moved to Hospers in 1994, where Roger lived until his death. He was a devoted Christian who loved Jesus, Cheryl, his kids, and grandkids. He loved spending time with them, either at a ball game, on the golf course, or on vacation at the lake.

After their kids moved out, Roger and Cheryl took up motorcycling and traveled many miles enjoying the beauty of God’s creation. Roger played a mean game of cards and was known for his competitive nature and razzing of the other players.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Cheryl, of Hospers; a daughter and her husband, Heather and Troy Boniek, and their children, Kaylee, Elizabeth and Samuel, of Willmar, Minnesota; two sons and their wives, Dan and Julie Jacobsma, and their children, Addison, Lucas and Andrew, of Sheldon; and Mike and Ashley Jacobsma, and their children, Keegan and Karter, of Le Mars; two sisters and their husbands, Linda and Ray Koens, of Brandon, South Dakota; and Carol and Gordan Tinklenberg, of Lincoln Nebraska; along with numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Memorials will be given to Bible League International.
