Mr. Wilmar “Bill” Wielenga, age 91, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the Orange City Area Health System.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Thursday, October 12, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. A prayer service will take place on Friday, October 13, at 10:00am, at the funeral home, followed by interment at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a memorial service on Friday, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Mark Haverdink officiating.

Wilmar Dean, who became known as Bill, was born on March 16, 1932, in Orange City, the son of Peter R. and Roelvina “Ruth” (Cleveringa) Wielenga. He was raised in Orange City, where he attended the Orange City Christian School and graduated from the Orange City High School. He then attended the Elgin Watchmakers College in Elgin, Illinois, graduating in 1953.

On June 24, 1954, he was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Muilenburg in Orange City. They made their home in El Paso, Texas while he was serving in the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge in 1955, they moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan. They later moved to Sioux City and then Rock Rapids, where he co-owned Crown Jewelers for over 35 years. In 2000, after retiring, he and Bev returned to Orange City.

Mr. Wielenga was currently a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City and had previously been a member at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids where he served as a deacon and an elder. He was also a member of the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post in Orange City. He and Bev spent a number of years volunteering with the camping ministry SOWERS, Servants on Wheels Ever Ready, where Bill was able to use his skills as a handyman. In his free time, Bill enjoyed golfing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of more than 69 years, Bev, of Orange City; a daughter, Jan Van Engen, of Willmar, Minnesota; a son and his wife, Jay and Rosalyn Wielenga, of Orange City; four grandchildren, Jaclyn, and her husband, Aaron Feltman; Tyler Van Engen, and his wife, Christine; Aaron Wielenga; and Leah, and her husband, Charlie Mosterd; seven great-grandchildren, Lauren, Anna, Hudson, and Jack Feltman; and Henry, Wesley, and Lucy Van Engen; a sister-in-law, Eleanor De Jong; and a brother-in-law, Virgil Muilenburg, both of Orange City; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Brian Van Engen; a granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Van Engen; his three siblings and their spouses, Raymond and Joyce Wielenga; Arlene and Orville Oolman; and Peter Jr. and Sylvia Wielenga; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth De Jong.

Memorials will be given to Northwestern College and First Reformed Church.
