Elizabeth Ann, who would become known as Betty, was born on December 22, 1933, in Orange City, the daughter of Donald J. and Edith K. (Roetman) Kraai. She grew up in Orange City and graduated from the Orange City High School before attending Northwestern Junior College in Orange City and St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City.

On June 16, 1954, Betty was united in marriage to Lawrence G. “Larry” Korver at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. The couple first lived in Brookings, South Dakota, and after Larry finished school, they moved to Walnut Grove, Minnesota. In 1960, they returned to Orange City, and two years later they moved to Luverne, Minnesota. The family again returned to their hometown in 1967, where they have since made their home. Betty started working as a teacher’s aide at the Maurice-Orange City Elementary School in 1977. She enjoyed being around children and will be remembered as “Mrs. K” by the countless students she interacted with over her 32 years of service.

Betty was a long-time member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. She was also an active supporter of Northwestern College in Orange City, particularly of their Red Raiders Football team that was coached by her husband for 28 years. She found great joy in making her house a welcoming home and decorating it for each season. She was especially fond of Christmas time, when she was able to display her collection of Santa Claus’ from around the world, many of which were made by her and her family.

She will be deeply missed by her husband of more than 69 years, Lawrence, of Orange City; three daughters, Cam, and her husband, Donald Riibe, of Orange City; Colleen Korver, of Omaha; and J.J. Fedders, and her friend, Jason Klingenberg, of Orange City; four grandchildren that knew her as “Grandma K”, Larry Riibe, and his wife, Ashley; and Akeyma, Korver, and Tytan Fedders; three honorary grandchildren, Jaden, Kaci, and Jaya Klingenberg; two great-grandchildren, Sloan and Tate Riibe; and a number of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, Donald and Geri Kraai; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Memorials will be given to Northwestern College in Orange City.
