Mrs. K. E. Wieringa one of Sioux County’s first settlers, died at her home in this place Monday January 16, of the infirmities of old age, and funeral services were held yesterday at the Presbyterian church, of which she was a member.
Mrs. Wieringa was born in Wilp, Province of Gelderland Neth. in July 1841, and was 69 years 5 months and 19 days old at the time of her death. She was married in her native country to Mr. Brink who died a few years later, and in 1969 she came to America with her two sons, Sam and Henry, who are now residents of this community. After a short residence in Fillmore County MN and near Le Mars the mother and her two little sons came to the vicinity of Hospers where the lived upon a claim.

In 1873 the subject of this sketch was married to K. (Klaas) Wieringa one of the first settlers of Sioux county, and the couple resided for nearly forty years upon their farm north west of Hospers. Last spring they moved to town to be near their only daughter, Mrs. J. W. Klein.
Mrs. Wieringa bravely endured the hardships of life in a new country, and was ever a true wife and mother to those who are left to mourn her departure.
The bereaved relatives wish to express their sincere thanks to all who assisted them in any way.
