Frederick Jay was born on March 19, 1950, in Sheldon, the son of Jacob and Arlene (Uittenbogaard) Kramer. He was raised in Hospers where he attended Hospers Christian Elementary School. Thereafter, he attended Western Christian High School in Hull. Fred received his GED from Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.

He was united in marriage to Bonita Faye Van Dyke on November 26, 1977, at the Hospers First Reformed Church. While they had multiple cities they called home during their marriage, most recently it was Sheldon. Fred enjoyed driving truck, operating a concrete pump truck and a pneumatic tanker for Russell’s Ready Mix and GCC Alliance Concrete, and later a payloader in his retirement years.

Fred was a member of the First Reformed Church in Hospers. He enjoyed fishing and boating but found the most joy in being around his family, especially his grandchildren, and attending their sporting events. There were few sporting events he was not present at to cheer his grandchildren on. Fred’s love for his family was evident to anyone who knew him. His witty sense of humor and the endless stories he shared will be missed.

Survivors include his wife of more than 45 years, Bonnie, of Sheldon; four sons, Nicholas Kramer and his wife, Heidi, of Hull; Joshua Kramer and his wife, Mandi, of Hospers; Matthew Kramer and Michael Kramer, both of Sheldon; four grandchildren, Jacob, Brevyn, Aayden and Aubyn Kramer; two sisters, Judith and her husband, John Solsma, of Hospers; and Luann Kramer of Bradenton, Florida; a brother, Dale “Butch” and his wife, Vicki, of Hospers; two sisters-in-law, Ramona and her husband, Brian Garvey, of Orange City; and Kim Van Dyke of Mena, Arkansas; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Randall and Judith Van Dyke of Spencer; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dustin Kramer; his mother and father-in-law, Ray and Alice Van Dyke; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Van Dyke.
