Mrs. Gladys Korver, age 91, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Friday, July 7, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, July 8, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. David Landegent and the Rev. Mark Haverdink officiating. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Gladys Louise, the daughter of Alexander “Sam” and Jeanette (Vanden Brink) Oldenkamp, was born on April 19, 1932, on a farm near Hospers. She grew up in the Orange City area and was a student at the Orange City public school, graduating in 1950. She earned her teaching certificate from Northwestern Junior College in Orange City and taught second and third grade at the Newkirk Public School.

On November 7, 1952, she was united in marriage to Cornelius “Casey” Korver at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The couple made their home in Orange City, and briefly at Fort Ord, California, while Casey was in the military. Following his honorable discharge, Casey and Gladys returned to Orange City, where they started their family. In 1965, they moved their family to Pipestone, Minnesota, where in addition to being a wife and mother, Gladys also worked as an educator, teaching elementary math for more than 29 years. In 1996, following their retirement, they returned to Orange City, and in 2016, they became residents of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City. As Gladys’ health declined, fulltime care became necessary, and she moved to the Prairie Ridge Care Center, where she has resided for the past two years.

Mrs. Korver was currently a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City and had previously been a member of the Pipestone Christian Reformed Church and the Woodstock Reformed Church, both in Minnesota. Gladys was also a member of The Gideons International Women’s Auxiliary, and of Stonecroft, a Christian women’s organization with which she volunteered. She was a speaker at numerous Stonecroft events, sharing her testimony of God’s faithfulness after the tragic death of Lisa Kay, and inviting other women to experience the truth of the Gospel. She and Casey enjoyed traveling together within the United States and as well to Europe, and spending time at Hart Ranch in the Black Hills. In earlier years, Gladys was an accomplished seamstress, and she played the organ and piano, often accompanying her husband. She also liked to play golf and go for walks.

She will be deeply missed by her husband of more than 70 years, Casey, of Orange City; three daughters and their husbands, Rachel and Steve Paula, of Brookings, South Dakota; Ruth and David Landegent, of Salem, Oregon; and Gayle and Dennis Ver Hey, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two sons, Lyle Korver, and his wife, Vicki, of Orange City; and Kyle Korver, of Sioux Falls; thirteen grandchildren, Joshua (Val) Paula, Jordan (Ketty) Paula, Travis (Jen) Korver, Jadi (Scott) Goins, Mikkell (Nick) Baker, Talitha Landegent, Ben (Sarah) Landegent, DJ (Anna) Ver Hey, Nicole (Tyler) Fluth, Casey Korver, Bryason (Rachel) Korver, Lily Korver, and Elysia Korver; 17 great-grandchildren; and two brothers and their wives, Herman and Grace Oldenkamp, of Orange City; and Kenneth and Mary Oldenkamp, of Alton; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Kay Korver; and a granddaughter, Kami Jo Korver.

Memorials will be given to The Gideons International.
