Shirley Renae was born on December 3, 1964, in Orange City, one of six children born to Clarence and Jeanette (De Jager) Den Hartog. She grew up in Orange City and attended the Orange City Christian School and Unity Christian High School. After graduating in 1983, Shirley enrolled at Dordt College in Sioux Center. After earning her associate degree, she started working at the Oostra, Bierma, and Schouten Law Office in Sioux Center as a paralegal.

She was united in marriage to Daryl Jay Beltman on January 16, 1999, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. Together, they made their home in Orange City and were blessed with two children, Joshua and Laura. Shirley was actively involved in her children’s lives. Since they were born, she taught them the value of daily devotions and reading God’s Word. She was involved in their schooling through participating in Moms in Prayer, the Monica Society, volunteering as a chaperone and classroom mother, and rarely missing one of their extracurricular activities. In 2019, when Joshua was diagnosed with a rare and cancerous brain tumor, she became his primary caregiver throughout his lengthy illness. Shirley found great joy in being a wife and mother. She instilled her love for worship and music in her children, which would later bless her as she enjoyed the music that Joshua and Laura made.

Mrs. Beltman was an active member of the New Hope Evangelical Free Church in Orange City, where she had taught Sunday school and been involved in various church ministries. She also enjoyed being active within the community and looked forward to the annual Orange City Tulip Festival, often helping out where she could between parades and as part of the festival’s steering committee.

She will be deeply missed by her husband of 24 years, Daryl; and her daughter, Laura, both of Orange City; a brother and his wife, Dennis and Sharon Den Hartog, of Orange City; three sisters, Marcia, and her husband, Terry Arends; Becky, and her husband, Curt Vogel; and Donna Den Hartog, all of Orange City; and two brothers-in-law, Fred Krommendyk; and Ron Beltman, and his wife, Mary, all of Orange City; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Joshua Beltman, on January 5, 2023; and a sister, Jane Krommendyk.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the Beltman Family requests memorial gifts be directed to the Orange City Christian School and Unity Christian High School.
