Mrs. Margery “Marge” Visser, age 90, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the Orange City Area Health System.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Sunday, November 13, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, at the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. There will be a funeral service on Monday, November 14, at 10:00am, at the church with the Rev. Robert Drenten officiating. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.

Margery Bernice was born on October 2, 1932, in Hull, the daughter of Andrew and Grace (Pals) Caswell. She grew up in and near Hull and attended Christian school and Western Christian High School, where she played basketball and participated in choir and band. After graduating from high school, she earned her teaching certificate and taught first and second grade at the Doon Christian School for three years.

On May 19, 1952, she was united in marriage to Paul Visser in Hull. They made their home in Orange City until Paul was drafted into the United States Army, and they moved to El Paso, Texas, for two years. Following his honorable discharge, they returned to Orange City, where Marge was a seventh and eighth grade teacher at the Orange City Christian School and taught piano lessons from her home. She and Paul later moved their family to South Dakota and Kansas before settling in Racine, Wisconsin, where they remained until 1970, when they moved back to Orange City. Marge continued to give piano lessons and she became a successful dealer for Stanley Household Products, winning several trips and awards. After their children were grown, Marge attended dog grooming school, and open Marge’s Pet Grooming in their home. Paul passed away on March 11, 2002, in Orange City, after more than 49 years of marriage. Marge remained in their home until June of 2022, when she became a resident of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City.

Mrs. Visser was a founding member of the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in various church activities and used her music talents playing the piano and organ. She enjoyed sewing and cooking, and spending time at the lake. She lived her faith every day, and has left a legacy of faith, courage, and love.

Survivors include her four children, Belinda, and her husband, Dan Pluim; and Valerie, and her husband, Randy Droog, all of Orange City; Carol, and her husband, Doug Bootsma, of Sanborn; and Paul Visser, of Orange City; a son-in-law and his wife, Art and Darla Vander Wilt, of Hospers; 23 grandchildren, Rashelle (Larry) Theis, Sabrina (Randy) Smit, Tabitha (Joel) Van Soelen, Amanda (Scott) Van Andel, J.P. Vander Wilt, Alissa (Jay) Schuiteman, Sarah (Paul) Birnbaum, Joshua (Dana) Pluim, Caleb (Sarah) Pluim, Heidi (Dan) Hibma, Tim Droog, Rachel (Justin) Rosenboom, Amy (Mike) Baker, Deric (Linda) Bootsma, Aaron (Sherri) Bootsma, Grace (Alex) Collins, Autumn Vander Linden, Hannah Vander Linden, Jessica Visser, Paul (Dana) Visser, Taylor (Kelsey) Visser, Nichole Visser; 53 great-grandchildren; a sister, Irene Groeneweg, of Rock Valley; a brother and his wife, George and Marilyn Caswell, of Inwood; and a sister-in-law, Joann Caswell, of Inwood.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Karla Vander Wilt and Donna Vander Linden; two daughters-in-law, Sheila Visser and Lisa Visser; a grandson, Nathan Vander Linden; a sister and her husband, Lenora and Cornie Davelaar; a brother, Wally Caswell; and a brother-in-law, John Groeneweg.

Memorials will be given to the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church.
