Mr. Gerald Postma, age 62, of Ireton, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Sioux Center Health.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Tuesday, June 21, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church in Ireton. A prayer service will take place on Wednesday, June 22, at 10:00am, at the church, followed by interment at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, at 11:00am, at the church with the Rev. Nathan Kuperus officiating. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.

Gerald Wayne was born on October 16, 1959, in Sioux Center, the son of Gerrit and Josephine Antoinette (Heersink) Postma. He was raised in rural Ireton, where he attended the Ireton Christian School and graduated from Unity Christian High School in Orange City.

On July 11, 1980, he was united in marriage to Rhonda Kay De Wit at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. They made their home on a farm near Ireton, where they raised their four children. In addition to being a farmer, he enjoyed driving bus for the Ireton Christian School for 28 years.

Gerald was a member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church. He was an avid sports fan and was particularly fond of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He also liked to watch movies, and spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of more than 41 years, Rhonda, of Ireton; four children and their spouses, Derrick and Christina Postma, of Sioux Center; Sarah and Nathaniel Spronk, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Michael and Danielle Postma, of Dubuque; and Grant and Ronni Postma, of Sioux Center; fourteen grandchildren, Zachary, Taiya, Brielle, and Livian Postma; Ella, Mia, and Iris Spronk; Casey, Reid, Lucy, and Sloane Postma; and Julian, Zion, and Vaylin Postma; his five siblings and their spouses, Joanne and Gary De Aarment; Esther and Paul Potter; Duane and Shelly Postma; Joyce and Lyle Vermeer; and Lori and Verlyn Westra; Rhonda’s five siblings and their spouses, Arlan and June De Wit; Robert and Laurie De Wit; Lyle and Pam De Wit; Loren and Julie De Wit; and Amy and Bill Davis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Rhonda’s parents, Martin and Joy De Wit.

Memorials may be given to the Ireton Christian School or the Ireton Christian Reformed Church sound system fund.
