Eva Jeane was born on January 13, 1941, in Orange City, one of nine children born to Laurence H. and Sadie M. (Popma) Ver Steeg. She grew up in Orange City and graduated from Orange City High School in 1959.

She was united in marriage to Ervin “Ike” Huizenga on February 26, 1960, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City, where they raised their family. In addition to being a wife and mother, Eva provided childcare to countless children for more than 35 years. Later in life she worked at K-Products in Orange City for several years and at Advanced Brands in Orange City, until the plant closed in 2012.

Mrs. Huizenga was a charter member of the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Orange City and a former member at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. In earlier years, she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and with the Monica Society and she participated in several local bowling leagues. She enjoyed any chance to visit with relatives and friends, often over a meal out or during their Sunday night card games. She loved to see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all of her family knew they could count on Grandma Eva for an up-to-date weather forecast.

She is survived by her husband of more than 62 years, Ike, of Orange City; two daughters and their husbands, Tami and Todd Morrison, of Sioux Falls; and Sheila and Brian Davelaar, of Ireton; a daughter-in-law, Karen Huizenga; and three sons and their wives, Darren and Dawn Huizenga; Ryan and Sherri Huizenga; and Ross and Dawn Huizenga; all of Orange City; 27 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Wanda Kuiken, of Maurice; Irma Beukelman, of Madison, South Dakota; Shirley, and her husband, Martin Wierda, of Sioux Center; and Nancy, and her husband, Dave Vellinga, of Clive; two brothers, Larry Ver Steeg, and his wife, Jane, of Hawarden; and Stan Ver Steeg, of Orange City; three brothers-in-law, Don Fedders, of Milford; Otto Huizenga, and his wife, Priscilla; and Willard Huizenga, and his wife, Linda, all of Orange City; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Huizenga and Joel Huizenga; a brother and his wife, Leon and Alice Ver Steeg; a sister, Pat Fedders; three brothers-in-law, Wilson Kuiken, Eldon Beukelman, and Julius Huizenga; and a sister-in-law, Madeline Huizenga.

The family is especially thankful for Dr. Jim Clemens and the hospice staff for the exceptional care and kindness shown to them during Eva’s final days. Memorial contributions will be given to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
