Mrs. John Gelderman Was Buried at Hull on Monday

Mrs. John Gelderman, who was taken to the State Hospital at Cherokee, Iowa, a couple of weeks ago, died there last week Thursday, June 12th, and was buried at Hull on Monday, June 16th.

Mrs. Tryntje Gelderman, nee Manden, was married first to Mr. Jake Beekhuis. To this union, two children were born: John Beekhuis of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and a daughter who died many years ago and previous to the death of her father. Mrs. Gelderman was later married to Mr. John Gelderman some years ago. Mr. Gelderman died about a year ago.

The deceased was a sister of Mr. Henry Manden of this place. Another brother, Anno Manden, died in January of this year.

The funeral of Mrs. Gelderman was held Monday afternoon from the Hull Protestant Reformed Church, with Rev. A. Cammenga officiating. Burial was made in Hope Cemetery beside her first husband, Mr. Beekhuis. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved son and brother and other relatives.

RESEARCH NOTES

Her death certificate (informant Cherokee State Hospital records) have Tryntje Gelderman, widow, age 83(?), born March 19, 1858(?) in the Netherlands; parents’ names unknown; died in the Cherokee State Hospital, where she had been a patient 7 days, at 3:35 a.m. June 12, 1941; cause, chronic myocarditis & myocardial degeneration, duration “years”; other conditions, “senile psychosis, delirious & confused type”; buried at Hull. [Note that her tentative age as given here does not correlate with the age given in the 1930 and 1940 censuses.]

She does not appear in the Sioux County Cemetery Index.

Obituaries of her brothers Henry and Anne (Anno) show their parents to have been Jan Manden and Geesje Everts.

The 1930 U.S. census shows her (age 56) living in Hull with husband John Gelderman (age 62), no occupation. He immigrated from the Netherlands in 1890, she in 1888; both are naturalized. In 1940 they are still living in Hull (ages 66 and 72).

No other information about her was readily located.
