REMSEN, Iowa - Loyal Homan, 76, of Remsen died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with Monsignor Nicholas J. Ruba and the Rev. Thomas J. Hart officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters, at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Mr. Homan was born Nov. 9, 1921, in rural Alton, Iowa, the son of George and Josephine (Arens) Homan. The family moved near Oyens, Iowa, where he was raised and attended St. Catherine's School. He then farmed with his parents.
He married Francie Mae Mousel on Jan. 28, 1946, in Alton. The couple lived near Alton, where he was a carpenter. In 1949, they moved near Remsen, where they farmed. They retired and moved into Remsen in 1985.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Harvey and Bev of Remsen; a daughter and her husband, Kim and Randy Frericks of Le Mars, Iowa; four grandchildren, Chad and Rayann Homan and Justin and Gina Frericks; two brothers and their wives, Milo and Delia and Dale and Sharon, all of Remsen; and a brother-in-law, Donald Pick of Oyens.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Pick.
Pallbearers will be Rich Arens, Chad Homan, Jay Jenness, Dale Mousel, Eric Reuter and Rick Sitzmann.
