Obit in LeMars Daily Sentinel (LeMars, Iowa) on Tuesday, November 30, 2004:Peter J. Homan Sr. (III), 77, of Remsen died Friday, November 26, 2004, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.
Peter J Homan Sr. (III) was born April 12, 1927, at Craig, the son of Peter and Rose (Wenner) Homan Sr. (II). When a young child, he moved with his family near Remsen where he received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen, graduating in 1945. He entered the U.S. Navy June 4, 1945, and served until being honorably discharged August 13, 1946. He then returned to Remsen where he operated a gas station.
Note: Callista (Groff) Wallmark has April 12, 1926 and Remsen, Iowa for Peter's date and place of birth in her family tree records.On August 16, 1950, he married Vivian Goebel at Granville. They made their home in Remsen where he was employed at the Home Lumber Company which belonged to his father. In the mid-1960's, he became a salesman for Adair Wholesale Lumber Co. in the northwest Iowa area. In the early 1970's he established his own wholesale lumber company, Dogwood Sales, which he operated until his retirement in the early 1990's. Vivian died May 24, 1994. He had been a member of the Happy Siesta Health Care Center since March 1999.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include five daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Chris Christoffel of Sioux City, Marlene and Mike Leiser of Fraser, Colo., Maxine and Ron Newmark of Thornton, Colo., Martha and Brian Havermann of West Des Moines, Margie and Mark Ruedy of Bettendorf; three sons, Tom and his wife, Cathy of Mason City, James of Valley Springs, S.D., Peter Jr. (IV) of Denver, Colo.: 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his special friend, Marge Holton of Cherokee; one sister, Elaine Homan of Remsen; one brother, Paul and his wife, Ethel of Remsen; two sister-in-laws, Armella Homan of Remsen and Kathleen Homan of Tarzana, Calif..
He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Amber Christoffel, four brothers, Gordon, Gerald, Donald in infancy, and Robert; one sister, Marian Frampton.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Private committal service will be at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen.
Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. There was a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a Vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary by the Catholic Order of Foresters at 8 p.m., all at the funeral home.
Casket bearers were Adam, Alisa, Eris and Evan Christoffel, Daniel Homan and Zachary Morin.
Catholic Order of Foresters honorary bears were Lyle Heidesch, Lavern Jaminet, Robert Mai, Donald Ortmann, Mark Poeckes, Orville Portz.
