Former School Teacher Dies At Pella

Miss Ann Vander Ploeg, who was an instructor in Sioux Center public schools some five years ago, passed away at her home in Pella Sunday morning.

Miss Vander Ploeg had been ill since she left here, for the past years unable to walk, and for the last few weeks bedridden. She leaves to mourn her parents at Pella, one sister, Mrs. Henry Boeyink of Melvin, Iowa, and two brothers, Alfred who attends Iowa University, and Edward, who is principal of Sioux Center Junior High, besides hosts of friends and former students who held her in highest esteem.

Edward Vander Ploeg was notified of her death Sunday and left at once for Pella. Funeral services were held Tuesday. He is expected to return the latter part of the week.

OBITUARY—Antoinette Vander Ploeg

Miss Antoinette Vander Ploeg passed away at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Vander Ploeg Sunday afternoon, January 7th at 5:05 o’clock. She was thirty years, four months and seventeen days of age. Miss Antoinette has been an invalid for more than five years, had suffered a great deal and her parents had exhausted all the possibilities in seeking medical aid for her in this and other states. Hers was a rare spinal malady.

She is survived by her parents, one sister, Mrs. Henry Boeyink of Martinsburg, Iowa, and two brothers, Edward Vander Ploeg, a teacher in Sioux Center, Iowa, high school and Alfred Vander Ploeg, student at Iowa State College at Ames.

Miss Vander Ploeg was born in Otley, received her education in the Pella public schools and in Central college from which she graduated in 1930. She taught school after graduation until compelled by ill health to abandon her work.

Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 and at 2:00 o’clock at the First Reformed church Tuesday, January 9th. Reverend Anthony Haverkamp was in charge and interment was in Oakwood cemetery.

Her death certificate (informant E. P. Vander Ploeg, Sioux Center) has Antoinette Mae Vander Ploeg; born August 21, 1909 in Otley, Iowa; parents Dirk Vander Ploeg and Gertrude A. Van Howeling, both born in Lake Prairie Township, Marion County, Iowa; usual residence, 911 Independence, Pella, Iowa; resident of this community 20 years; usual occupation, school teacher, Sioux Center High School; died in Pella at 5 p.m. January 7, 1940; cause, gliomatous tumor, lumbar vertebrae, also arthritis, both since 1932; other conditions, toxemia and myocardial degeneration; an operation on July 20, 1938, found a gliomatous tumor in dural cul-de-sac of 1st, 2nd & 3rd lumbar vertebrae.
